A kayaking guide to the northwestern coast of Sardinia, from Asinara to La Maddalena

The guidebook is organized by itineraries, each one including a description, meteorological info, sightseeing, embarking/disembarking and camping/accommodations options.

The structure of the book is modeled upon the excellent guide to sea kayaing in Corse by Laurent Demai and Pascal Paoli: Tour de la Corse en kayak de mer, (Canotier, 2021).1

Technical info

  • The project is realized as a static website produced with the Quire system by the Getty institution in Los Angeles.2

Overall structure of the book

The book is currently envisioned to have the following structure:

    The zeroeth folder containing the general info about the book, including at least the following pages:

    Information in general about sea kayaking in Northern Sardinia, and in particular:

      General description of the book’s coverage and the overall characteristics of the various sections of the coast, both inland and at sea

    • Cartography.md

      General info on available physical and digital sea charts topography maps. Specific map/charts references will be provided in the itinerary pages.

      Italian legislation about sea kayaking

      General meteorological conditions, perhaps with graphs about prevailing winds and waves by month.

      Local rules on camping and bivouacing and list of available campgrounds

    The suggested itineraries, with one folder each, each folder including:

      Description of the itinerary with map showing the geographic location in Northern Sardinia and a tracking map of the itinerary itself. Includes also possible shorter and/or longer alternatives.

    • Cartography.md

      Map and chart references. Perhaps include them in the description page

    • Access_disembarking.md

      How to access and how to leave the itinerary

    • General_conditions.md

      Information on specific conditions (meteo, traffic, etc.)

    • Campgrounds.md

      Where to spend the night if necessary, including bailing out options

    • On_the_coast.md

      Information on parallel hiking and/or sightseeing on land.
